LUDHIANA – Chief Judicial Magistrate Jaapinder Singh granted bail to Independent MLA Simarjit Bains and seven others. They were facing accusations of manhandling and obstructing policemen in the performance of their official duty.
They were arrested on May 9 while protesting against a cable transmission company on Ferozepur road.
Defence lawyers Jagmohan Singh Warraich and Gurpreet Singh claimed that Bains and his supporters were demonstrating peacefully, but the local police mercilessly beat them up.
