NEW YORK – Raghuveer Nayak, an Indo-American businessman, was arrested on charges of bribery and tax fraud and is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez in US District Court. He is been accused of paying bribes to physicians for patient referrals and filing false income tax returns.

Nayak, a former fund-raiser for Blagojevich and Representative Jesse Jackson Jr, was involved in the senate seat scandal of Chicago governor Rod Blagojevich, who is now jailed.

Nayak has promised to come up a million dollars for Blagojevich if Jesse Jackson Jr was appointed to the US Senate to replace President Barack Obama, in a meeting which was held in the year 2008.

Moreover, Blagojevich is also accused of trying to sell President Barack Obama’s vacant senate seat. Nayak also revealed to the FBI that Jackson made a deal of “pay-to-play” offer and bribed Blagojevich to appoint Jackson to vacant senate seat during Obama’s election as US President.

Nayak is charged with 10 counts of mail fraud, five counts of interstate travel in aid of racketeering, and four counts of filing false income tax returns from the year 2005 to 2008.
