Indo-American Techie Vinod Khosla To Set Up An Incubator In India

SAN JOSE – Budding Indian entrepreneurs with a social orientation have good news coming their way. Vinod Khosla, venture capitalist and founder of Khosla Ventures and one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems is now planning his new entity to operate outside the U.S. reports business-standard.com

Technology startups in India can expect a little more liberty in terms of acceleration and incubation as Khosla labs, the new entity will be soon available and would play the role of an incubator focusing to help technology startups. The expected time for this venture to start operations is six months.

Khosla labs would act as a centre to help Indian entrepreneurs develop solutions and businesses basically the ones that focus on solving various issues regarding the country. There are no preset criteria involved in this program but the focus through his labs would be to support ventures that would solve issues like social inequalities, governance issues and public grievances.

Khosla has hired Srikanth Nadhamuni, Head of Technology at Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), as the CEO of the labs. Nadhamuni played a key role in building the technology for the ambitious UID (Adhaar) project.

With this new responsibility on his shoulder, Nadhamuni has resigned from his duties at UIDAI. “I will associate with UIDAI whenever they need me,” he said.

We know that Khosla is planning an entity in India through which he is planning to do some exciting stuffs in the country that will address many issues of ours,” says another source reported by business-standard.

In one of his early interviews Khosla was quoted saying, “India is slowly witnessing changes in the start-up ecosystem and interesting technology products are coming from the country. There are problems to be resolved in the country.”

Khosla’s investment strategy has been unique; they invest in various sectors but often focusing in social sectors. Investments under this genre include – SKS Microfinance, CASHPOR Financial and Technical Services and MokshaYug Access.
