VANCOUVER – An Indo-Canadian man is among eight suspects charged in a string of B.C. jewelry store robberies in which store clerks were threatened with machetes and hammers, and in one case doused in lighter fluid.

Bobby Prasad, 37, of Surrey was among the eight arrested but RCMP are still searching for 27-year-old Surrey resident Jeffrey Greenwood in connection to the organized heists targeting two North Surrey pawn shops and one Burnaby jewelry store between May 22 and June 5.

Greenwood is described as white, 6-0 tall and 166 lbs., with blue eyes and a tattoo of a dog’s head on his neck.

Investigators believe the wanted man is part of a criminal team that made off with an estimated $50,000 during forcible takeovers of the two pawn shops on May 22 and 31.

“This was an organized, goal-oriented group that had no regard for public safety and displayed reckless behaviour putting innocent people’s lives at risks,” Surrey RCMP Insp. Wade Lymburner said in a release.

Police say they were able to identify a vehicle and person of interest following those robberies and began surveillance of the suspects. A team of police officers followed the crew to Burnaby on June 5 and watched as they allegedly held up Station Jewellers on Mackay Avenue.

Strike force officers managed to arrest five suspects as they fled the scene and recovered about $30,000 in stolen property. Two other suspects have been arrested since and investigators are still working to identify more of the people responsible for the Surrey robberies.

Along with Prasad and Greenwood, the five other men and one woman now charged with robbery and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence include:

Jordan Boucher, 26, of no fixed address

Kevin Campbell, 25, of Surrey

Raymond Hawse, 39, of Surrey

Phuong Thi Le, 21, of Surrey

Anthony Nguyen, 20, of Surrey

Sonny Nguyen, 19, of Surrey

Police are still trying to recover the items stolen in the Surrey heists, including a distinctive gold Harley Davidson belt buckle valued at $3,000. Anyone with information about the missing property or Greenwood’s whereabouts is asked to call the Surrey RCMP robbery section at 604-507-5940.
