Indo-Canadian Chess Wiz Tanraj Sohal Wins Another Canadian Chess Championship

SURREY – Chess wizard Tanraj Sohal’s winning streak continued as he has won the 2012 Canadian Chess Championship held in Halifax, Nova Scotia last weekend in his grade level.

Tanraj, a fifteen-year old Grade 10 student from Surrey, has now won for the Canadian title for the seventh time.

He earlier won the 2012 Fraser Valley Regional in Surrey and BC Provincial Chess Championship held in Victoria, BC.

Canadian Chess Challenge is the annual event where each province is represented by their 12 Provincial Champions (one player from Grades 1 to 12).

The Challenge is organized and sponsored by the Chess’n Math Association, Canada’s National Scholastic Chess Organization.

Each player plays 9 round robin matches over two days in their respective grade against each of the provincial champions.

Tanraj had a perfect score of  9/9  by defeating all other 9 provincial champions from Alberta through Newfoundland.
