Indo-Canadian Married Couple Identified As Victims Of Surrey Killings Last Week

The victims are 49-year-old Dilber Singh Atwal and 30-year-old Gurpreet Kaur Atwal, who had been married since 2002 and leave behind three young children.

SURREY An Indo-Canadian married couple have been named in the killings that took place in the Newton area of Surrey last week.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced that the victims are 49-year-old Dilber Singh Atwal and 30-year-old Gurpreet Kaur Atwal. They were both killed last week in a double homicide in Surrey, according to police. The couple had been married since 2002 and leave behind three young children.

At about 10:30 p.m. on June 19, police were called to a report of a disturbance at a home at 6773 145A St. They entered to find the Indo-Canadian couple dead.

Witnesses had heard some people arguing prior to the discovery of the two bodies in the home, in what is believed to be a domestic murder-suicide.

Witnesses at the scene said they knew the couple well, and that there had been several instances over the past 10 years when the police had been called for complaints of a disturbance.

IHIT is not releasing further details at this time. Surrey:

The autopsy results will be required to confirm the cause of death in this instance.

“This is a tragic death which has left three children without their parents, the family of the victim’s are asking for privacy during this extremely difficult time,” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

The results from the autopsy will not be available for several weeks.
