International Day of Yoga Celebrated across Metro Vancouver

The 8th Annual International Day of Yoga was celebrated in various forms around the world on 21st June. The UN General Assembly, on the request of Narendra Modi, the Prime Minster of India, passed a resolution on December 2014 and proclaimed June 21 as an International Day of Yoga. Yoga is a Vedic tradition of meditation which has its roots in India.  The physical, mental, and spiritual benefits are related within it. Yoga promotes harmony, peace, and unity of all individuals, communities, and countries regardless of race, religion, culture, gender, and nationality. It helps in decreasing anxiety, stress, and tension and promotes social wellbeing.

The teachers of Yoga organized different activities in Metro Vancouver. Nutan Thakur, a popular radio announcer, artist, anchor of cultural- shows, and a Yoga acharya, organized a session, under the umbrella of “Arogya Canada” on June 17 at Shanti Niketan, Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey.

The program began at 7.00 PM by Dr Arun Garg who introduced Nutan Thakur. Arun Garg, Acharya Dwivedi, Consul Surjeet Singh lit the candles. Consul Surjeet Singh delivered a short speech on Yoga. On behalf of the Hindi Literary Society of Canada, Acharya Dwivedi, Reshma Misra and Pushplata Sharma honored the Consul and Nutan Thakur with peetaamber.

Nutan guided the fifty participants who were with Yoga mats. The exercise session continued for more than one hour. The food was provided by Mandir. There were 90 Yoga lovers who enjoyed the celebration.

Nutan was also trainer at David Lam Park, Vancouver where International Yoga Day was organized by the Consulate General of India, Manish ji on June 21,2023 with the support of many Yoga organizations. It was a huge success, in which more than 600 people participated.
