ROHTAK – The agitation by members of the Jat community for grant of reservation, which began on February 14, spread to Sonepat, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Hisar districts today, even as Rohtak was cut off from not only Delhi, but also the rest of the state.

While the roads from Rohtak to Delhi, Sonepat, Jhajjar and Panipat remained blocked, those leading to Jind, Bhiwani and Hisar were also a no-go for traffic.

Thousands of commuters as well as local residents were put to grave inconvenience and several schools remained closed. The Rohtak-Delhi rail link remained cut off for the second day today, with protesters continuing blocking the track at Ismaila village on the outskirts of Rohtak town.

The police, who have booked more than 1,000 persons for causing inconvenience, did not take any action against the protesters. SSP Saurabh Singh said,  “Rapid Action Force as well as BSF personnel are on their way to Rohtak and Jhajjar and we will act against the protesters once they arrive.”

Deputy Commissioner DK Behera said efforts were being made to invite the representatives of the protesters for talks.

Meanwhile, the protesters’ leaders said they had launched a “decisive” battle. “We will put forth our point of view tomorrow,” said Virender Dalal.
