JALANDHAR – Deepak Kamboj (35), son of Vinay Jalandhari, Shiv Sena (Uttar Bharat) chief, was shot at by two motorcycle-borne persons outside a school at Deen Dyal Upadhaya Nagar here.

Deepak, patron of the Shiv Sena in Jalandhar, had gone to the school to pick up his children when he was attacked at 2.41 pm, said a witness. He was on a scooter. A bullet ripped through Deepak’s knee and he lay writhing in pain in a pool of blood. He called up his brother on the cellphone and was rushed to a private hospital. The incident created a scare. There was utter chaos outside the school. Police officials, including DCP Sandeep Sharma, hastened to the site.

A CCTV camera in a house opposite the school’s gate captured images of two assailants in hooded pullovers riding a Yamaha FZ bike without a number plate.

Arvind Kamboj, the victim’s brother, said Deepak had received threats to his life. “He has been given four security guards. But he did not take them along to the school today.” This is the third such incident in the state in past one month.
