OTTAWA– Liberal Deputy Leader Ralph Goodale said the Conservative Party of Canada’s admission to making a series of robocalls for the purpose of undermining the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Saskatchewan is totally unacceptable and deplorable
“This admission by the Conservative Party demonstrates just how low they are prepared to go to further their own partisan interests. While it is shameful enough that they attacked an independent electoral commission made up of highly respected Saskatchewanians, the fact that they tried to carry out this attack anonymously is simply deplorable.
“This callous disregard for democratic norms is reminiscent of a similar anonymous phone attack that the Conservatives ran against my colleague, Irwin Cotler, the Member of Parliament for Mount Royal. At the time, the Speaker of the House of Commons clearly called their actions ‘reprehensible.’ The Conservatives’ latest dishonesty is equally so.
” Now that the culprit has confessed, I expect a full CRTC investigation into this travesty.”
