Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team has arrested a motorcyclist with the assistance of Air1.
On May 24, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) was notified that Air 1 was following a motorcycle travelling 200 km/h on King George Boulevard near 56 Avenue. The bike stopped at a red light and police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the rider fled.
Police did not pursue the motorcycle, however Air 1 continued to follow it to the 14900-block of 68A Avenue where it stopped. Police converged on the area and arrested a 25-year-old man for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. He was later released on an appearance notice with a future court date.
The motorcycle was seized as offence related property and is being considered for the civil forfeiture process. In March 2023, the driver had his motorcycle impounded in another jurisdiction for excessive speed.
This kind of reckless driving behavior shows a complete disregard for the safety of everyone on the road, says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Vanessa Munn. The coordinated effort between Air 1 and SGET lead to the driver being taken into custody safely.
