SURREY – Prof. Avtar SVirdi has pointed out severalmistakes in the CanadianCitizenship test book. “Coat ofArms” is a symbol that is on thecover of all Canadian Passports. This is seen at the bottom of ashiny strip in all old Canadianbills. Those are missing from allnew Canadian bills. The map of Canada shownon the page 45 of citizenship testbook is shown like Canada is anisland. The USA to the south,Alaska to the west of YukonTerritory and Greenland to theeast of Nunavut seem immersedin oceans as internationalstandard sky blue color is seen allaround Canada. The five great lakes to thesouth of Ontario are showndisconnected in the map whereasactually all of them are interlinkedwhose water ultimately reaches inthe St. Lawrence Seaway. The St.Lawrence River which drains outthe water of all great lakes in thesea is also missing.Dr. Shinder Purewal, formerCitizenship Judge and now aprofessor at Kwantlen College, said that authors of this book hadhigh presumptions that peopletaking this test understand manythings obviously. But a common person won’tunderstand many of these thingsby himself. Therefore the pointsraised by prof. Virdi are valid andneed to be corrected. There aremany more mistakes as pointedout by him in the book, he added. If anybody wants to know moreabout them, he or she can contact Prof.Virdi at 604-725-3340.
