Party quickly accepts “picture-press-release-a-day” Raj Hindal’s resignation and said it will hold new nomination meeting in Surrey-Tynehead. What really happened here? Hundal was supposed to one of NDP’s new Indo-Canadian stars! Hundal was contacted by the LINK but didn’t return our call before we went to print.

VICTORIA — Call it the curse of Dave Hayer or something completely different but NDP’s aggressive Surrey-Tynehead candidate Raj Hundal suddenly resigned this week from the B.C. New Democratic Party’s candidate in the riding, the party’s provincial secretary announced Tuesday.

“I received Mr. Hundal’s resignation on the weekend and he has resigned for personal reasons,” Jan O’Brien told the Vancouver Sun in an interview.

“We’re moving on now to look at holding a new nomination meeting in that constituency.”

Nominated in July 2011, Hundal is a former commissioner on the Vancouver park board.

He is also a graduate of the University of British Columbia, and holds a degree in law from the University of Manchester.

Hundal was supposed to one of NDP’s new Indo-Canadian stars! Hundal was contacted by the LINK but didn’t return our call before we went to print.

O’Brien did not give details on the personal issue that caused him to resign.

O’Brien added the Surrey-Tynehead constituency association will now meet to set a date for a new nomination meeting.

The riding is held by B.C. Liberal MLA Dave Hayer, who has announced he will not run again in 2013.
