New Freedoms Will Apply To Everyone-AG

SUVA – Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said when the Public Emergency regulations is lifted the new freedoms will apply to everyone.

In an interview with Radio New Zealand, Sayed-Khaiyum said people will now be allowed to meet in groups however, they will still need permits to meet in public places like any other countries.

Sayed-Khaiyum also said the media will be able to have balanced reports with the lifting of the censorship.

The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama announced in his new year’s message that the Public Emergency Regulations will be lifted this Saturday to facilitate for the consultations on the new constitution which will commence from next month.

The PER has been in place in Fiji since 10th April 2009
