North-Van Mosque Threatened With Bomb Threat Again

NORTH VANCOUVER – TheRCMP are investigating a bombthreat targeting a NorthVancouver mosque — the secondtime the mosque hasreceived such a threat since2010.Mounties evacuated gatherersat the mosque Monday eveningafter police received a call therewas a bomb in the building. Thethreat came in around 5:50from an unknown caller. Policewere told the bomb would gooff at a certain time.According to Cpl. Richard DeJong, on Monday at approximately6 p.m. the NorthVancouver RCMP detachmentreceived a call from a man whosaid a bomb was set to go off ata mosque located in the 300block of Lynn Avenue.Police wouldn’t name themosque, but the AlghadirMasjid mosque is listed at 351Lynn Ave, reported 24 Hoursnewspaper.Police evacuated the building,which had about 15 people inthe hall, and secured the area,De Jong said, and it wassearched by officers and apolice dog trained to findexplosives. No bomb was located.De Jong confirmed police areinvestigating possible linksbetween this bomb threat and asimilar threat the Al GhadirMasjid mosque received in2010. Calls by 24 hours to themosque went unreturned.Police are speaking to mosqueofficials in an attempt to identifythe caller and any motive forthe threat, De Jong said.Anyone with information onthis incident is asked to call theNorth Vancouver RCMP at604-985-1311.
