JALANDHAR – As much as Rs 1,500 crore has been invested in solar energy sector in Punjab in the past three years with a total generation capacity of 225 Mega Watt (MW), a senior minister said on Tuesday.
Non Resident Indians (NRI’s) are investing in renewable energy sector in Punjab due to “investor friendly” policies of the state government, said New & Renewable Energy and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
“By 2017, 1,000 MW of solar energy would be generated in Punjab, which would be the maximum in the country,” he added.
He said that his dream of generating 10 per cent power requirement through renewable energy sector is all set to be accomplished in the next three years.
UK-based NRIs Avtar Singh Kang and Raovarinder Singh Kang have set up one MW solar energy project in their ancestral village, Lallian Kalan, in the district.
This solar energy project has been constructed by their company named Ik Energy Pvt Ltd on seven acres of land with an investment of Rs 7.25 crore, an official spokesman said.
