Top Punjabi Singer-Actor Diljit Dosanjh Grilled For Five Hours Over ‘Hawala’ Transactions

JALANDHAR – Punjabi singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh was quizzed Wednesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for around five hours for allegedly violating the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Dosanjh arrived at the ED office at 12.15 pm and left at 5 pm. He was also carrying some documents, which were reportedly sought by the ED regarding his foreign shows and money transactions. He has appeared before the ED twice, earlier being on April 12. The sources said Dosanjh was quizzed by a panel of officers and he was asked to come clean on the transactions related to his foreign shows.

Apart from Dosanjh, singers Miss Pooja and Gippy Grewal and film producers and financiers from Jalandhar, including Batra Showbiz and Gurfateh Productions, are also under scanner.

Both Pooja and Gippy Grewal had also appeared before the ED over the last two months for alleged hawala transactions.

These singers came under the ED scanner after it was suspected that as a number of Punjabi movies and songs by these entertainers are shot at foreign locations, there is a likelihood of illegal transfer of money abroad.

Also, it is suspected that the money being earned by these stars during performances abroad — and in case of film producers, the money earned through selling of overseas rights — is also illegally routed back to India.
