SURREY – Surrey RCMP have charged Fushpinder Singh Brar with manslaughter in Surrey cold case, where after a shooting incident, the victim’s spine was severed and he was left a quadriplegic until his death in 2012.

In 2006, Mahdi Halane was shot in the neck after a confrontation at a gas station in the early morning hours of Oct. 14.

Halane’s spinal cord was severed and he was left a quadriplegic until his death in 2012, which police say was attributed to the 2006 shooting, reported CBC News.

The  30-year-old accused Brar was arrested last Friday in Vancouver without an incident. He remains in custody.

“Our officers routinely revisit and continue to investigate cases in an effort to move them forward.” said Insp. Manny Mann.

“This latest arrest and charge of manslaughter are a direct result of investigators following up on leads and new information received, and we hope it will help bring some closure to the family.”

But the cold case investigation continues as police believe other individuals were involved who have yet to be identified.
