ABOHAR – National Commission for Scheduled Castes vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka on Tuesday assured slain Dalit man Bhim Tank’s mother Kaushalya Devi that none of the persons involved in the December 11 farmhouse killing would be allowed to go scot-free.

Speaking to Verka over phone, Kaushalya Devi alleged that politically motivated efforts were being made to exonerate liquor baron and Akali leader Shiv Lal Doda, who had been booked under Section 120 B in the case, as no challan had been presented against him and his henchman Raja.

She also spoke to Congress Legislative Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi and 20 other Dalit community MLAs of different political parties. They too assured her of all help.

Some of them offered to visit Abohar again to express solidarity with the stir. Bhim’s father Kapur Chand Tank, sister Deepika and Bhim Tank Murder Action Committee convener Gopi Ram Sandar were also present as Kaushalya approached legislators over phone.

The committee had a meeting in Sant Nagar this afternoon. Convener Gopi Ram Sandar said at a media briefing that the police had so far not listed Wahabwala police station former in charge Harinder Singh Chameli as accused despite the demand made by the committee and endorsed at rallies by leaders of different political parties. At the meeting, members said Chameli had allegedly helped killers of Bhim Tank in running away safely after the barbaric act in Ramsara village-based farmhouse owned by Dodas.

The farmhouse was not sealed for four days, forensic science experts were not called to collect blood samples, CCTV camera footages were not taken in custody immediately, the guard on duty was not interrogated during the stipulated time, and all this was done to dilute the crime at an initial stage, they alleged. Chameli and old police station in charge Abhinav Chauhan was placed under suspension but chargesheets were not served.
