CHANDIGARH – Worried over three attacks on different Hindu leaders in a month, the Punjab Police are analysing if a pattern like the last year’s sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib is emerging in the state.

Police officials studying the cases think that the attackers seem to be choosing soft but selective targets like the sacrilege incidents last year.

The attackers’ aim is to target a community hoping that flayed tempers may lead to escalation of the law and order problem.

Sources said in all three attacks, two motor-cycle borne youths were involved and the purpose did not seem to be to kill the target.

None of the cases have been solved, causing embarrassment to the department.

On January 16, two motorcycle borne youths attacked RSS leader Naresh Kumar in Ludhiana. Then on February 4, two motorcycle riders shot at Shiv Sena leader Amit Arora. The third incident took place today when Deepak Kamboj, leader of an outfit of the Shiv Sena was shot at in Jalandhar.

Police officials said that one thing common to the incidents was that the security of the two Shiv Sena leaders was pruned about eight months ago.

They also noted that Deepak Kamboj’s security guards were not with him when he was attacked today. “The ones planning the attacks are choosing soft targets. Shiv Sena and RSS are known to have taken a strong stand against Khalistan.”

Officials said that not very superior weapons were used in the attacks. “Attacks one after another are worrisome. One or two incidents can be taken as routine crimes, but now, it seems to be a thought-out pattern. The fact that the previous two cases are unsolved is not helping much,” said an official.

Alarming, says Capt

Jalandhar: PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh has condemned the murderous attack on Deepak Kamboj, a Shiv Sena activist in Jalandhar, on Tuesday. In a statement, he expressed grave concern over such incidents, saying it was third such incident in recent past. He pointed out that two similar incidents had taken place in Ludhiana earlier and the police were yet to identify the culprits.
