Punjab Cancer Patients To Get Rs 1.5 Lakh As Aid

BATHINDA – Cancer patients running from pillarto post in Punjab will get the financial aidfrom chief minister’s relief fund soon will be gettingit directly through the deputy commissioners.The patients and their attendants no morewill have to wait for the hospitals empanelledunder the scheme to disburse it.Punjab health minister Surjit Kumar Jayani hasmooted the idea and have taken up the issue withchief minister Parkash Singh Badal. State governmentprovides an aid of Rs 1.5 lakh to cancerpatients for treatment. Presently patients had towait for longer periods to get it or many a timeeven the patient dies and family members fails toget the financial aid and it remains deposited withthe hospital. Guru Gobind Singh medical collegeof Faridkot working under under Baba FaridUniversity of health sciences has about Rs 10crore to be disbursed to patients.Jayani talking to The Times ofIndia at Bathinda on Tuesdaysaid, “After going throughnumerous complaints of financialaid not reaching to cancer patientsdespite the state government disbursingit to empanelled hospitals,I have decided to make it simplifyso that it may be given directly topatient. I have already talked tochief minister and his responsewas very positive and if all goeswell we will start giving the aiddirectly to the patients on completionof all formalities throughdeputy commissioners.”
