Encroachers Sitting On 85 Acres in Bathinda Village!

BATHINDA – Naseebpura village, alsoknown as Kailey Vandar, near TalwandiSabo town, and khasra No. 2467 in theheart of Bathinda city are prime examplesof how shamlat land (common villageland) has been illegally occupied andfraudulently registered in this district.Not only have big chunks of land in theurban area been illegally occupied buttheir records have also been manipulated,with some having “shared owners”, forregistration.Of the 297 gram panchayats in this district,official records suggest that at least92 acres of the panchayat land is underillegal occupation in the rural area. Ofthat, 85 acres is located in Naseebpuravillage alone.Khasra No. 2467 stands apart as it contains11.78 acres of urban land, most ofwhich has been illegally occupied. Severalhouses, a bank and financial institutionsapart from parts of a college have comeup illegally on the land, whose marketvalue is pegged at Rs 200 crore.
