FATEHGARH SAHIB – Comedian and Punjab Election Commission icon Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi says he has no interest in politics.

He said this while addressing a state-level function on National Voters Day at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College here today.

“I don’t want to join politics as I am an artist and let me remain so. However, if people want me to serve the nation then I will consider the same,” he added.

Evading questions on his joining the Aam Aadmi Party, Ghuggi said he was already serving the nation by creating awareness among the general public on various social menaces prevalent in society.

Earlier, he exhorted students to avoid listening songs that had degraded the morality among the youth. He said Punjab, which had a great history and culture, was being defamed through songs. He said Jats (farming community) were being defamed by projecting them as violent community in songs. He said it was unfortunate and the youth should raise their voice against this.

Chief Election Officer, Punjab, VK Singh said 2.5 lakh voters have registered with the Election Commission in Punjab this year, taking the total number of voters to 1.92 crore. He said the voters should exercise their franchise to strengthen the democracy. He also distributed voter ID cards among new voters.
