JALANDHAR – Claiming that the RSS, a rightwing Hindu group, had so far succeeded only in its 20 per cent expansion plan in rural areas of the state, state co-convener of the organisation Brig Jagdish Gagneja (retd) said it was set to form its shakhas in all villages of Punjab.

He said the number of shakhas in the state had already increased from 593 to 689 since the past nearly a year.

The state co-convener of the organisation said the prime agenda of the organisation was to fight caste division, which was much pronounced in rural Punjab that had separate temples and even cremation grounds for the Dalits.

Brig Gagneja said the Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha had passed a resolution that the medium of language in Punjab at primary levels should be Punjabi.

The state co-convener of the organisation said it even upheld the decision of the United Nations to observe June 21 as the International Yoga Day. On the issue of religious conversions, he said the RSS was averse to forcible conversions or those being done through greed.
