AMRITSAR – More trouble is brewing for the controversial Satkar Committees as SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur lodged a written complaint against them with the Akal Takht Jathedar who said the matter would be deliberated in the next meeting of the Sikh clergy.

In her complaint, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur has alleged that Sikhs are “drifting away” from their religion due to the activities of these Satkar Committees. She also mentioned the incident in which Satkar Committee members confronted the SGPC staff, led by her, while they were shifting a ‘bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib after it was gutted in fire on April 22.

She alleged that committee leader Amrik Singh also reached there and got into a heated argument with her apparently over the way they were carrying out the procedure. She alleged that the committee members tried to stop the SGPC staff from discharging their duties. She also alleged that these committee members were often armed with swords and spears, spreading fear among the Sikh community. She urged the jathedar to clarify what rights these committees had to implement ‘maryada’.

Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said they would discuss the matter in the meeting of the Sikh high priests. He said they had not given any authorisation to these Satkar Committees.
