SURREY – The Shakti Awards welcomed a packed house on Saturday evening at the Banquet Hall in Surrey. The purpose of this annual event is to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of everyday women in our community and to raise awareness around women’s issues. The event is held in the month of March to commemorate International Women’s Day.
This year the Shakti awards were given to:
Honorary award for Public service – Anu Pala
Honorary award for Business and Entrepreneur – Madhuri Anand
Academic achievement – Gurkiran Maan
Business and Entrepreneur – Rammen Sagu
Public service – Caroline McGllivray
Artistic achievement – Farah Hasan
Sports achievement – Pretty Verma
A very moving key note speech was given by Kamal Dhillon, author of Black and Blue Saree. Community partners: Diversecity, Beauty Night, ISS, Justice Education Society also participated. A variety of entertainers added revelry to the evening .
