Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) announces the launch of its 20th annual Sidak leadership program, taking place 24 July – 6 August in Mission, B.C. Canada. To celebrate its 20th year, Sidak is being offered fee-free!

Sidak is for young adults (18-39 yrs.) seeking to increase their commitment towards Sikhi. Sidak explores personal and panthak (Sikh collective) development through a Gurmat (Guru’s Way) framework based on Bani (wisdom), Tavarikh (history), and Rahit (lifestyle). The goal of Sidak is to develop Sikh thought leaders who will play critical roles in creating real, sustainable solutions to pressing panthak and world problems.

“Sidak is the top Sikh Leadership program in the world – inspiring the next generation of leaders to take on the most important challenges facing our communities and the world. I am delighted that SikhRI has made the program fee-free to all participants,” said Kulvir Singh, SikhRI Chair.

Three learning tracks serve as key foundations of Sidak. Sikhi 101 introduces the attendees to Sikh history (from the formation of Sikhi to contemporary time) and the fundamentals of Sikh theology, with particular emphasis on the Sikh lived experience. Sikhi 201 is an intensive, seminar-based course that surveys Sikh writings outlining the Sikh history, theology, political theory, economic issues, and social implications. Gurbani 101 familiarizes the attendees with the structure, languages, and themes of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Additionally, there are sessions on leadership development as well as community building. SikhRI’s staff, board, volunteers, and occasionally guest speakers facilitate these tracks and sessions. Each facilitator brings their own experiences, education, and passions to the classroom sessions.

“Sidakers form bonds with each other as seekers, and their instructors inspire them towards education and leadership long after the program has ended. This unique learning opportunity helps young adults discover their inner self, walk the path of their Sikhi journeys, build stronger relationships, and infuse Sikhi spirit in their future goals and successes,” informed Jasleen Kaur, Sikhi 201 Facilitator.

Since its inception, Sidak has hosted participants from Australia, Canada, China, England, India, Malaysia, Scotland, Sweden, and the United States. Experience the magnificence of Canada’s West Coast with mountains, woods, and lakes; an ideal environment for introspection, reflection, and learning.

Applications to attend this program are now OPEN! Due to the fee-free structure, seats are limited – only 60 applicants will be accepted, so apply as soon as possible.
