ROPAR – District and Sessions Judge Amarjot Bhatti awarded 20-year imprisonment to six youths in a gangrape case here today. She also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each.
The convicts have been identified as Palwinder Singh and Talwinder Singh of Sangatpura village in Mohali district and Davinder Singh Lalli, Varun Bhardwaj, Gurpreet Singh and Paramveer Singh of Manakpur Sharif village.
The case dates back to January 27, 2014, when two girls were kidnapped from near the Siswan road by the convicts at gunpoint when they were going to Silver Oaks hospital in Mohali for nursing training.
After committing the crime, Lalli dropped the girls at Kubbaheri village near Mohali.
The police had registered a case under Sections 376, 376D, 366, 364, 511, 506, 342 and 120-B of the IPC and the Arms Act on January 31, 2014, at the Kurali police station.
The court has directed that the amount of fine be disbursed to the victims.
