Sony Says PS4 Sales Exceed 2.1 Million Units In Under Three Weeks

TOKYO – Sony said Tuesday it has soldmore than 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consolesafter less than three weeks on themarket, as it battles Microsoft andNintendo for supremacy in the lucrativegaming sector.The eagerly-awaited PlayStation soldmore than one million units in just oneday after its November 15 debut inNorth America and Sony said Tuesday itwas on track to hit a worldwide target of5.0 million units by March.The latest PlayStation, which will bereleased in its home market Japan inFebruary, is now being sold in 32 countries.”PS4 delivered the best launch inPlayStation history with the NorthAmerican release and we’ve continuedthis incredibly successful start inEurope, Australasia and Latin America,”Andrew House, President of SonyComputer Entertainment, said in astatement.Sony’s latest sales figures come afterMicrosoft said its new Xbox One consolealso sold over one million units in24 hours following its November 22release. Rival Nintendo launched its newWii U console late last year.Sales have lagged the company’s expectations,but Nintendo said in October itwas keeping its forecast for the new Wiiconsole at 9.0 million units for the yearto March 2014.
