AMRITSAR – Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal ordered the removal of All-India Pingalwara Charitable Society’s stall near the main entrance gate of the Golden Temple.

The stall had been promoting philanthropic activities of the society among the devotees visiting the holy shrine for years.

Society chairperson Dr Inderjit Kaur said the Deputy CM had issued similar orders in the past too. She said they were now trying to contact Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia so that the stall was allowed to continue.

She said the stall had been running there for decades and initially Bhagat Puran Singh himself used to sit there. He used to collect monetary aid for the destitute and the disabled at the stall.

On the other hand, Darbar Sahib manager Partap Singh said the stall was “maligning the beauty of the holy shrine”. He said the Deputy CM ordered removal of various stalls, and not only that of Pingalwara. He said they would try and allot some other suitable spot for Pingalwara’s stall.
