CHANDIGARH – Sikh scholar, author of Sikh Encyclopedia and community activist Dr Raghbir Singh Bains was given the ‘Award of Honour’ at the 65th World Sikh Educational Conference held under aegis of the Chief Khalsa Diwan which was established in the year 1902 with a definite objective and mission to promote the intellectual, moral, social, educational and economic welfare of the Sikhs as well as to safe-guard their socio-political rights in all the fields of life.

The award was bestowed upon Dr Raghbir Singh Bains by the Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Parkash Singh Badal in presence of thousands of prominent guests and educationists hailing from different parts of the world in recognition of his major contributions made to the global society.  Amazingly it was the first occasion in 112 years when Sikh scholars with Indian background from various countries of the world were invited to partake in the educational conference organized by the Chief Khalsa Diwan.

Dr Bains has been honoured with hundreds of local, national and international awards, titles, accolades and orders including Good Citizen of Surrey Canada, Order of British Columbia Canada, Queen Elizabeth 11’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, Title of ‘Panth Rattan’, Sikh Scholar of Computer Age Title bestowed by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and SGPC Amritsar, the Order of Khalsa by the Government of Punjab and Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award by the Governor General of Canada.
