Surrey Man Charged With Killing Three People, Including An Indo-Canadian

Sarbjit Bains is charged with two counts of first-degree murder inthe August 2013 deaths of escorts Jill Lyons and Karen Nabors.Bains is also charged with second-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Amritpal Saran whose body was found on ColebrookRoad in a rural part of Surrey in February 2013.

VANCOUVER — Police believea 32-year-old Indo-Canadianman from Surrey is responsiblefor three separate murders inMetro Vancouver last year.Sarbjit Bains is charged with twocounts of first-degree murder inthe August 2013 deaths ofescorts Jill Lyons and KarenNabors.He is also charged with seconddegreemurder in the death of29-year-old Amritpal Saranwhose body was found onColebrook Road in a rural partof Surrey in February 2013,reported Surrey Leader.Family members of 29-year-oldAmritpal Saran read statementsat an news conference followingthe arrest of a 32-year-old B.C.man.The bodies of 45-year-oldLyons and 48-year-old Nabors,48, were found about two weeksapart in the same apartmentcomplex in New Westminster,B.C.At the time of their deaths,police issued a public warning tosex-trade workers, remindinganybody engaged in a high-risklifestyle to remain vigilant.At a Monday press conference,IHIT would not discuss anypotential motive or explain howBains may have known the victims.Saran’s burned remains werefound on Feb. 24 alongColebrook Road, a notoriousdead-end where several corpseshave been discovered over thelast year. The 29-year-old Deltaresident was known to policebut had no apparent gang ties.Lyons was found in her home inthe 200-block of 11th Street onAug. 12. Nabors was found inher own suite in the same buildingless than two weeks later, onAug. 25. The women bothworked as online escorts andknew each other, but had noapparent link to Saran.Family members of each of thevictims attended Monday’s pressconference, expressing grief aswell as appreciation for policeefforts.”God did not give us thepower to take someone’s lifeaway,” Saran’s sister Simrit said.”To the cowards that did this toour Amrit: You must havethought you got away, but this isjust the beginning. Your sufferingstarts now.”Investigators said surveillancevideo from buildings and businessesnear the crime scenes wascrucial in cracking the case.Bains is charged with firstdegreemurder in Lyons andNabors’ deaths and seconddegreemurder in Saran’s.Bains and his co-accused, 36-year-old Evelina Urbaniak ofSurrey, are charged with indignityto human remains in Saran’smurder. Urbaniak is alsoaccused on a second count ofaccessory after the fact in thesame case.Bains and Urbaniuk appeared incourt Monday morning andremain in custody.
