Teenager Alleges Torture By Police, Probe Ordered

JALANDHAR – A 19-year-old boy, Arun Kumar, complained of kidney failure after the city police allegedly made him to do sit-ups at the Rama Mandi police station.

The incident was reported on May 7, when PCR personnel took him to the police station on a complaint regarding eve-teasing. His family today met Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Jasvir Singh seeking action against the guilty policemen.

His mother Saroj said his son Arun was going to watch a football match when he was picked up by the policemen from the Dakoha railway crossing on a complaint regarding eve-teasing. “He was beaten up by an ASI rank officer at the Rama Mandi police station. He was also made to do 200 sit-ups before setting him free from the police station,” she said, alleging a few days after the incident, her son’s health started deteriorating and he was rushed to a hospital.

“Doctors said both his kidneys were damaged. My son was completely fit and fine earlier. It was due to the police torture that my son’s kidneys got damaged. I want action against the guilty policemen,” she said.

Saying that being poor, they could not afford the daily expensive treatment for dialysis, she sought financial help from from the police and district administration.

When contacted, ACP, Central, DD Sharma said an inquiry had been marked.
