Canada’s 2016 Census is underway in your area.
Every person, young and old, must be included in the 2016 Census. Tenants residing in a house with more than one suite must be counted as part of the census.
Census letters and reminder cards are being delivered to every dwelling in Canada, providing residents with the information they need to complete the census online or on paper. Completed questionnaires will provide valuable information that will be used to make decisions about your neighbourhood and community.
Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as schools, daycare, family services, housing, police services, fire protection, roads, public transportation and skills training for employment.
Your Confidentiality
All residents of Canada are legally required to complete the census questionnaire, according to the Statistics Act.
Statistics Canada is bound by law to protect the confidentiality of the information respondents provide in the census. Only Statistics Canada employees who have taken the oath of secrecy have access to census questionnaires.
In order to preserve the confidentiality of respondents, no information is released from the census in a form that would identify individual respondents. Detailed census data are never released for geographic areas with a population of less than 40 people—250 people in the case of income data.
