KAMLOOPS – The man who was known as “Uncle Toor” during his days in Surrey as a electronic repair shop owner was stabbed by his son 31 times and now his son has been given a life sentence for the crime.

Forty-six-year-old Jaipreet Singh Toor of Kamloops, B.C., admitted to fatally stabbing his father 79-year-old father Harsewak Toor 31 times.

A B.C. Supreme Court judge has handed the younger Toor a life sentence on Wednesday. He will now spend at least the next 12 years behind bars for the murder after he pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder.

Toor represented himself and had requested a minimum 10 years before parole eligibility, while the Crown was seeking 12 to 14 years in prison for the March 2012 slaying, reported Canadian Press.

Toor told the court he became enraged when his father refused to give him more money after providing him with some cash earlier in the day.

Justice Sheri Donegan ruled there was no evidence Toor was suffering from a mental illness when he committed the crime.

She also found he understands the charges against him and the consequences of his guilty plea.

The court earlier heard that Jaipreet Singh Toor stabbed Harsewak Toor outside his home after the elderly man denied him $20.

The elderly Harsewak Toor was a well liked figure who operated an electronics repair shop situated in the rear side of Surrey’s Khalsa Business Centre. Many Facebook readers who had known him as “uncle” paid their tributes to the murdered man after the LINK published the story online last Wednesday.

Crown prosecutor Chris Balison said in court Toor told a 911 operator that he attacked his father because he was angry and he hated the man.
