The annual Vancouver Vaisakhi celebrations were held last Saturday in Vancouver, bringing out a horde of federal, provincial and civic politicians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was only allowed to attend after his government removed the “Khalistan Sikh extremism” wording, unnecessarily placed in this year’s terror report, which many say was done at the urging of the Indian government. Conservative opposition leader Andrew Scheer also attended but seemed a little lost as he is not used to such cultural gatherings and was later accused by his opponents of not using any photos on his social media pages where his head was covered so that he cow-tow to the racist Quebec voters who are banning any head-gear in Quebec public service. Trudeau spoke at the Khalsa Diwan Society Sikh Temple before marching in the Vaisakhi parade, in Vancouver on Saturday April 13. “As we celebrate Vaisakhi, let us also celebrate all the incredible contributions of this community,” he said in a speech after he walked in a parade Saturday organized by the Khalsa Diwan Society. The society formed in 1902 and built the first Sikh Gurdwara in Canada several years later. Provincial politicians including Premier John Horgan his NDP team also attended along with their BC Liberal counterparts as well as the new Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart.
