VANCOUVER – The 2014 edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival kicked off Thursday night with the gala screening of Oscars hopeful “Wild,” starring Reese Witherspoon and directed by Canada’s top export to Hollywood Jean-Marc Vallée.

The LINK could not get into the screening due to heavy demand for tickets as Wild is a hotly anticipated fall film which is hoping to mount an Oscar campaign for star and director and possibly more.

But we were able to make it to the invite only Gala reception for VIFF at the Vancouver Club.

The Vancouver landmark is a fabulous venue for a film or any other party. VIFF has definitely gone upscale on their venue for the opening party even if they have downscaled on other things.

But great atmosphere and wine and mellow music were the perfect tonic for film lovers who already had their main course at the Wild screening.
