New Research Says Guys Really Suck At This!
Eye contact, flirty giggling, charged conversation-you’re feeling it, and you think your signals are crystal clear. But according to new research, the guy still might not know what the hell you’re thinking.
Yep, a recent study confirmed what we’ve suspected for a while: dudes are pretty bad at reading sexual cues.
Researchers put 200 college students through a “speed-meeting” exercise where each participant spent five minutes talking to a member of the opposite sex. Before the experiment, each rated his or her own attractiveness and desire for a short-term sexual encounter, and then rated the attractiveness and perceived sexual interest of the other participants they met afterward.
And the results? Well, both men who rated themselves as hot and reported that they’d be down for a short-term sexual encounter were more likely to overestimate a woman’s desire for them, while men who were actually rated as attractive by the female participants didn’t just assume those women were into them.
So basically, the guys who we actually find cute and endearing are naturally less apt to assume you’re automatically interested…but the ones you’re probably not interested in are picking signals up out of nowhere. Interesting.
