Mukhtiar Panghali, who was found guilty on circumstantial evidence, is appealing his conviction in the murder of his wife.

DELTA – Convicted wife killer Mukhtiar Panghali, who was found guilty on circumstantial evidence, is appealing his conviction in the murder of his wife.

Panghali was found guilty of killing his pregnant wife Manjit and leaving her burned remains along Deltaport Way.

In Panghali’s notice of appeal, his lawyer says the trial judge made a number of errors, including admitting controversial evidence.

Manjit’s sister Jasmine Bhambra told 1130 News she is not surprised. “You know what, we expected this. He is just trying to find a loophole in the system. It just shows his character.”

It’s been nearly eight months since Panghali was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years. Bhambra says the wounds still haven’t healed after a painful trial with gruesome testimony.

“All we had wanted from him was for him to accept what he did, to admit what he did, to apologize for it, and to feel bad for it,” she says. “But he doesn’t, and he never will.”

While Bhambra says the appeal is not surprising, it brings back pain. “The wounds and the pain never goes away. It’s always there.”

“The fact that it just keeps coming up and up again, it’s to be expected,” she adds. “I think we’re used to it now. We’ve been through five years of hell that he’s put us through.”

But she is feeling confident. “I am absolutely 100 per cent sure that nothing is going to come out of this for him.”

Manjit’s sister Jasmine Bambra says it’s clear her sister’s killer wants to find a legal loophole.

“My only concern is that there may be a loophole in the system…i don’t know…I’ve never been through this before. i just think the proof was laid out, he was convicted…he’s just trying to get away with murder, again.”

No date has been set for the appeal.
