Women More Attracted To Low-Voiced Men Who Are Likelier To Cheat

WASHINGTON – A new studyhas revealed that men with lowpitchedvoices have an advantagein attracting women, eventhough women know they’renot likely to stick around forlong.Researchers at McMasterUniversity have found thatwomen were more attracted tomen with masculine voices, atleast for short-term relationships.Those men were also seen asmore likely to cheat and unsuitablefor a longer relationship,such as marriage.The study offers insight into theevolution of the human voiceand how we choose our mates.”Until now, it’s been unclearwhy women would like the voicesof men who might cheat. Butwe found that the more womenthought these men would cheat,the more they were attracted tothem for a brief relationshipwhen they are less worriedabout fidelity,” lead authorJillian O’Connor said.For the study, 87 women listenedto men’s voices that weremanipulated electronically tosound higher or lower, and thenchose who they thought wasmore likely to cheat on theirromantic partner.Researchers also asked the participantsto choose the voicethey thought was more attractivefor a long-term versus ashort-term relationship.The study is published in thejournal Personality andIndividual Differences.
