OTTAWA – The Sikh-Canadian community activist organization World Sikh Organization congratulated Sarabjit (Sabi) Singh Marwah on being appointed Canada’s first Sikh senator.

Marwah, who recently retired as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for Scotiabank and is a founding member of the Sikh Foundation of Canada, has long been a mentor to up and coming Sikh professionals and has worked on several Sikh cultural initiatives.

WSO President Mukhbir Singh said, “we offer our congratulations and best wishes to Sabi Marwah on his appointment to the senate;  there are few people with stronger qualifications.  This is truly an amazing and historic time for Sikhs in Canada with a record number of Sikh MPs, four cabinet ministers, the appointment of Bardish Chaggar as the first woman and first Sikh to serve as House Leader and now with the appointment of the first Sikh senator.  Sikhs have come a long way in Canada and continue to be inspired by the Sikh values of seva (service) and sarbat da bhalla (upliftment of all).”

The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) is a national non-profit organization with a mandate to promote and protect the interests of Canadian Sikhs as well as to promote and advocate for the protection of human rights of all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and social and economic status.
