After Debacle In Libya, Countries Cautious In Granting West Another Excuse To Attack Syria

Things are not going too well for the west in Libya. They have been unable to get rid off Gaddafi after about six months. Each day he survives, he scores and the west loses. The leader of the opposition was recently killed, further weakening the rebels. It looks that west may not be able to fulfill its goal in Libya.

The situation in Syria looks worse for the west than in Libya. Assad is cracking hard on the protestors who are obviously incited by the west. Hundreds have died in Syria. However, the west has not been able to do much about it. This time the west has not even been able to get a resolution condemning Syria, passed in the U.N. The countries, who voted for such a resolution on Libya, have fresh memories about how the west cheated them. They were told that the resolution was only condemning Gaddafi. However, the west used it to attack Libya. Those countries do not want to fall in the same track again. They do not want to give the west an excuse to launch an attack on Syria.

The attack on Syria is less likely than on Libya. Syria is too close to the dangerous area of the middle east. Syria also borders Israel. An attack on Syria is too risky because this can upset the balance of power in a very sensitive area and it can also unleash the forces which can severely damage the Israeli interests and pose a great challenge for the security of Israel.

America is finding it extremely difficult to come out of the economic crises. The last thing it needs now is to risk the oil supply from the Middle East. Trying to take out Assads can pose a threat to the secure oil supply from the Middle East.

From Iraq to Libya and to Syria, shows the gradual weakening of the west and its ability to control the world and to impose its will on the others. Saddam was easily taken out. Gaddafi is proving a hard nut to crack. They seem reluctant to even try to get rid of Assad.

It appears that the days of the western domination are really numbered. The west has to start changing its attitude of controlling and dominating rest of the world. The west has to accept the reality that a multi polar world order is on the horizon. The west should change its attitude and accept the new realities of the world. There is a saying in Punjabi that if you see that you are going to lose everything than share it, so that at least you will have half of what you have.
