Akali MLA Pargat Hurt After Beaten Up Over Parking

CHANDIGARH – Shiromani Akali Dal MLA and former Indian hockey captain Pargat Singh got injured after he was allegedly thrashed over a parking issue at the Sector 9 inner market here last night.

The police arrested the accused, Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Sector 22, and released him on bail later in the night.

At the time of the incident, the MLA was with his wife. He suffered fractures on two fingers. The police, who were stationed nearby, caught the youth from the spot.

According to the police, the incident happened around 9 pm when the MLA. Accompanied by his staff and guards, the MLA had gone to visit the Sector 9 market from the MLA hostel. While leaving the parking, he asked Kamaljit to move his Innova car aside as it was parked on the way.

This led to a verbal spat between the two and the accused, in his mid-twenties, allegedly started abusing Pargat. When he protested, the youth assaulted him. The youth hit him with some object, which left two fingers of his right hand fractured.

“We got the accused medically examined at Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, and later arrested him. We have booked him under Sections 325, 341 and 294 of the IPC at the Sector 3 police station,” said a police official.
