JALANDHAR – The Jalandhar police have identified the seven minor children who were trafficked to various countries by a city-based travel agent since 2013.

The police today released the pictures of the children to identify the whereabouts of their parents. The accused, Sarabjit Sharma, was recently arrested by the police while his wife Nisha Bhardwaj and kingpin of the gang Sukhwinder Singh are still at large.

Sarabjit owns Tania Tour and Travels, while Sukhwinder owns Flywell Tourist Service. The couple had visas of the UK, the USA, Canada and several European countries.

ADCP, Crime, Vivek Sheel Soni said children were reportedly sold abroad for slavery. Regarding the modus operandi, the ADCP said Sukhwinder Singh used to look out for children below 14 years of age, following which Sarabjit and his wife Nisha were shown as parents by preparing “fake” documents.

Parents connived

A police official said Sarabjit confessed that all children were sent abroad with the prior consent of their parents. All parents took hefty amount in lieu of sending their children abroad. The police said, “Parents may also face action. Had seven children gone missing from Punjab, there would have been police complaints, but the same was not found which showed parents’connivance.”
