VANCOUVER – Local  Ambedkarites organized a 12-day tour and installing the Dr. Ambedkar Banner at the world’s highest elevation on the Alaska-Yukon Highway on July 25, 2014, a date that coincided with one of Dr. Ambedkar’s life events, the establishment of  Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha that was formed on 20th July 1924

Installing Dr. Ambedkar banner on the Alaska-Yukon Highway, also called the “Top of the World Highway” for the World’s Top statesman, is the most suitable location to display our pride of Dr. Ambedkar, said Fort St. James Councillor Dave Birdi who met the delegation during their stop-over in Fort St. James.

Councillor Birdi, the First Ambedkarite Councillor in North America, was very pleased and proud of the group’s noble cause.

The concept of installing the Dr. Ambedkar Banner on the “top of the world” was generated  by Rashpal Bharadwaj, Sutey Ahir, Balbir Ghirra, Bhagwant Sandi, Sukhi Ghirra, Kulwant Sandi, and Paramjit Kainth and they announced their plan during the Dr. Ambedkar Birth Anniversary celebrations in Surrey in April of this year.

“Our gratitude to Baba Sahib Dr. Ambedkar continues to grow everyday as we learn about his contributions and achievements and we are proud to affiliate ourselves to his legacy”, said Bharadwaj, one of the tour organizers.
