The Patiala police have unearthed another internationalsynthetic drug racket worth Rs 6,000 crore with the arrest ofits mastermind, Canadian national Devinder Singh alias Dev,from Rajasthan. Singh’s arrest comes on the heels of a numberof other high profile Indo-Canadians, especially those from theKabaddi clubs, who have been named by Punjab police in theirbust of Punjab drug cartel boss Jagdish Singh Bhola. Many ofthose charged in Punjab with drug smuggling but who remainfree in Canada have made much noise about them being innocentbut most local people say that these people are rightly charged.Many have put this questions to those protesting their innocence– that why don’t they go to Punjab and prove their innocence?

He was produced before theChief Judicial Magistrate, Patiala,Tuesday, who remanded himtill January 14. Investigationsrevealed that precursor chemicalskatamine, ephedrine andpseudoephedrine were procuredby peddlers from Hyderabad,Mumbai and Delhi and smuggledinto Canada.The processing of thesechemicals to manufacture syntheticdrugs was done mainly inCanada by China and Vietnamnationals.
