ABOHAR – A 10-member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided Military Engineer Services complex near Military Station at Sadhuwali village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar highway and nabbed five officials with Rs 60,000 which they had allegedly taken as bribe to clear the pending bills of a construction company.

Sources said Deepak Aneja, director of a construction company, had alleged in his complaint to the CBI that the Garrison Engineer staff was demanding bribe to clear bills worth Rs 17 lakh against the work done by him in 2013-14.

The CBI sleuths reportedly recorded the telephonic talk between the complainant and Het Ram, upper division clerk. The 10-member team headed by inspector Jaidev Yadav reached Sriganganagar last week and verified the contents of the complaint during the stay.

Sources said complainant Deepak yesterday contacted UDC Het Ram, who allegedly provided information about the bribe money to be paid to different officials.

Accordingly, Deepak today paid Rs 60,000 to five officials. Het Ram, however, did not touch the money. On receiving the signal from the complainant, the CBI team entered the offices and nabbed assistant Garrison Engineer Anil Bentagiri, junior engineer SN Mohanty, assistant engineer Radhey Shyam Soni and accounts officer Harish Nagle with chemically treated notes and also held UDC Het Ram.

The accused will be presented in the special court tomorrow. All refuted the charges while being taken for investigation.

Two months ago, the CBI had nabbed two MES engineers during a raid near the Lalgarh Jattan military station with bribe money.
