CHANDIGARH – Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa termed the party’s loss in the Dhuri byelection as a “collective responsibility”. His bete noire and Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh blamed him for the defeat.

“Bajwa is responsible for party’s humiliating defeat by a huge margin of over 37,000 votes. When you win, you take the honour and when you lose, you feel the heat. This is the rule of the game,” he said.

He alleged: “I have been seeking his resignation for the past two years. Bajwa has failed to perform and take along and enthuse party workers time and again. He did not even take the election seriously. He should have been present at the ground level to mobilise party cadre and people against the government.”

Bajwa said: “It is the collective responsibility and no individual can be blamed for the defeat. The SAD had misused the official machinery. There was hardly any coordination between the Congress, PPP cadre and the Barnala family supporters during the campaign”.

Bajwa held a meeting of party’s block heads of all 117 Assembly constituencies to ensure maximum participation of workers in the Congress’ April 19 “Vishal Kisan Rally” in Delhi.
