LUCKNOW – In a shocking incident, an Uttar Pradesh policeman along with a village chowkidar raped a teenage girl, who was rescued after being kidnapped, for five days before handing her over to the family. Police are yet to arrest the erring cop despite repeated complaints.
According to the victim’s father, Rameshwar, his 16-year-old daughter Suntia (both names) was kidnapped by a man, Rajnesh, and his aides on April 2 this year. Rameshwar lodged a complaint with police the same day but no action was taken against the accused till he approached senior officers who directed the local police to register a case. An FIR was lodged on April 8.
When police took no further action, Rameshwar on June 3 threatened to immolate himself outside the police station. Following media reports, senior officers directed Piswan police to act. As a result, Sunita who was untraceable since April, was found by sub-inspector Ram Prasad Premi, the investigating officer, on June 5.
Rameshwar said on June 5 the village chowkidar informed him that Sunita was found. He accompanied the chowkidar to the village from where Sunita was rescued. Thereafter, Rameshwar, Sunita, the chowkidar and the SI along with a constable headed for the Piswan police station. Rameshwar said on the way, he was asked to get off the vehicle and reach the police station by himself.
For the next five days he kept on visiting the police station enquiring about his daughter only to be sent back. It was after Rameshwar raised an alarm, the chowkidar escorted the girl home. “Once she reached home the girl narrated her ordeal that she underwent first at the hands of the accused and then the SI and the chowkidar,” Rameshwar said.
