BRAMPTON – Police in a Toronto suburb have charged three South Asians with first-degree murder in relation to a stabbing death that happened in Brampton on Monday morning.

Rupie Budhu, 43, was killed after some sort of fight in a driveway, Peel police say. He died in the hospital after the stabbing, reported CityNews.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Skyvalley Drive, near The Gore and Castlemore roads, around 12:30 a.m.

Budhu lived on Skyvalley but was dropped off by a taxi at a home a few doors down from his own. He was then involved in a fight with group of men, all of whom also lived on the street.

Police charged Moses Porrezao, 51 and his son Nicolas Persaud, 18, and Kevin Mahabir, 21.

All three suspects lived together where the stabbing took place. The victim and the accused knew each other.

“There’s no reason for the public to be concerned for their safety,” Const. Lily Fitzpatrick told reporters at the scene on Monday afternoon.

Area residents told CityNews that there were often disputes between two neighbours on Skyvalley, and police were called to the area twice a month because of the arguments.

Police later confirmed they had been called to the street “multiple” times.

The cab driver remained at the scene. The driver is a witness and police are looking for anyone else with any information to come forward.

There’s no word yet on a motive.

The suspects been remanded until tomorrow for a bail hearing.
